Ayune Shojima solo exhibition "The hubbub" will be held from February 22 (Sat) to March 9 (Sun)

Cignitta will be holding Ayune Shojima's solo exhibition "The hubbub" from February 22nd.

Aomori-based artist Ayune Shojima's work expresses a unique worldview in which gentleness and strength coexist, overlapping her own emotions with the natural environment, plants and animals. The exhibition at Cignitta will feature 20 works that correspond to the season when many dormant lives sprout all at once.

The title of the solo exhibition, "The hubbub," means "bustling and noisy." Please enjoy the bustle of animals and plants, inspired by Margaret Wise Brown's picture book "Quiet Noisy Book" (translated by Shuntaro Sakuya).

A gallery talk will be held on the first day, Saturday, February 22nd, from 4pm. We will connect with Shojima's studio in Aomori via Zoom and have him talk about his work.

About The Hubab

Many sounds can be heard from this silent painting. It tells us many things.

The shapes, textures and colors of the animal and plant motifs reflect the light and speak to you.

The thickness of the petals, the curvature of the stem,

You can hear the warmth of the creatures' skin, their smells, and the sounds of them running through the wind.

The motifs I painted leave my hands and begin to speak all at once.

Where to go, when to fly, how to live.

We will exhibit many quiet and lively paintings.
