We are pleased to present a solo exhibition of riya, an artist who uses the technique of paper cut-outs to create somewhat haunting and folkloric works with a sense of ecological perspective by arranging icons such as animals, humans, waves, clouds, flames, and stars. This is her first solo exhibition in Osaka in seven years, since DMOARTS “WHALE SONG” in 2015.

The 3~5 cm deep works are cut with a cutter and layered with various kinds of paper, such as mermaid paper, tanto, rascha, and sato paper. When you look into the shadow box-like semi-3-dimensional paper cutouts, you will find the stories of sacred creatures. Please enjoy RIYA’s world, suitable for the Christmas season.
