MASAKI HAGIHARA started painting on his own initiative in 2020, when the world was in a state of stagnation due to the Corona disaster, in order to reflect on himself and live as an artist. He has been showing his works mainly at galleries in Nagoya.
In 2022, he entered the Metasequoia Kyomachibori Art Fair and won the Ieiri Kazuma Prize from CAMPFIRE, a renowned art collector and representative. Later, his works were sold out at an art event hosted by the Rotary Club in Osaka, attracting a lot of attention. In 2020, the same year he began painting, he went independent from his family’s long-established noodle shop in Gifu, which has been in business for 50 years, and opened a restaurant specializing in chilled tanuki soba noodles, which he has been eating since childhood.
He says, “Cold soba noodles and paintings are both art for me,” and “I only have one life, so I want to use up all the potential I have. Please come and see the world of MASAKI HAGIHARA, who continues to challenge himself in art and in life.
I was drawn in by the strength of the work at first glance, and although he is self-taught, his touch and use of color showed a great sense of style. ( Kazuma Ieiri / CAMPFIRE)
