We are pleased to announce that chignitta space will hold the solo exhibition of YURI IKEGUCHI, a Nara based painter who has been expanding her own creative activities since 2009 she was selected as an artist by juries of JAPAN MEDIA ARTS FESTIVAL 2009 which is organized by The Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan. The exhibition starts on September 23rd (Thu/ National holiday) here at chignitta space in Osaka.
Yuri Ikeguchi
Painter. She studied design at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, and has also studied for a year at the Université National d'Architecture de Paris, L'Avillette.
She reproduces her own paintings in different media.
Yuri Ikeguchi, a painter, found joy in her daily trips to the supermarket in her restricted life. After a while, going from shelf to shelf of a wide variety of products, from food to miscellaneous goods, became a "journey" that liberated her mind. The colorful products lined up in supermarkets are comically drawn on paper and cut into pieces, and then the self-created pictures are recreated one by one on pieces of wood, in a complex and unique way.

Also, for the first time in this solo exhibition, he will try his hand at "still life painting.

The objects sold in supermarkets will play a new role and delight our eyes.
Statement by Yuri Ikeguchi for this solo exhibition:
In 2020, the coronavirus changed our lives. Going out was restricted.
Going to the supermarket every day became a pleasure. It's a colorful and exciting visual experience with lots of products. It's the universe. Climbing a mountain or going to the city used to be a journey for me, but now going to the supermarket is a journey.
Now going to the supermarket is a trip. I input the trip to the supermarket, and I output the pictures.
